Dudley Museum & Art Gallery have permanent geology displays which show the wide variety of rock and fossil specimens within the Dudley collections. The focus of these displays is the range of local fossils collected from the Wrens Nest, Dudley. These fossils are on display in the ‘Dudley UnEarthed’ and the ‘Climate Change Gallery’. The ‘Return of the Dinosaurs’ features scale models of different dinosaurs and real fossils. Recent additions to the dinosaur collection include full scale Tyrannosaurus Rex jawbones and an Allosaurus skull. A small area in the corner of this gallery allows children to search for dinosaur bones in the sand box and do some colouring in. If you want to meet a life size Wolley mammoth then visit ‘Fluffy’ in the upstairs gallery, make sure you take your camera so that you can have your photo with him.
Dudley councils JAM (Juniors At Museums) club hold regular activities throughout the year for a small fee. They include story telling and arts and crafts which are quite often based on the geology galleries at Dudley Museum & Art Gallery.
For a day outdoors why not head across to the Wrens Nest and go fossil hunting or to see the Seven Sisters mine entrance. There are events going on all year round at the Wrens Nest, these include days such as ‘Hunt the Dudley Bug.’
